I made this for you, but it’s not my idea…
An illustration because pictures help.
What people do and the results they generate is our short-cut for making sense of others around us and feeling like we know them and can fairly judge what they are about - its clear in their output. We can see it, its tangible!
Yet in our own minds we operate according to our beliefs and needs - and of course all of our good intentions. Internally we want grace, we want permission to experiment without criticism, we want to grow without fear of failure so that we can get better with the actions and better with the results.
Great leaders who are GSD minded want results but not at the cost of Low EQ and using people like a tool. Instead, the GSD minded leader wants to create a place where their team can be fully activated to produce their best, most meaningful work.
Creating a safe environment for outstanding work starts with understanding we are all on a journey growing and learning and the internal and external should be considered together.
Thanks Dave Gray for the visual I've re-interpreted here. It's from his book Liminal Thinking which I highly recommend!

Appreciate you,
